Growing up in Tucson, staying active was a big part of my life. I spent my high school years playing football and running track for Catalina High School. After high school, I attended college at Mount Senario in Wisconsin on a football scholarship. Unfortunately, I was required to have reconstructive surgery after tearing ligaments in my shoulder, thus ending my college football career.
After surgery, I returned to Tucson with a number of questions, and no answers. I spent a few years soul searching and decided it was time for me to get back into the gym. It took some time getting back to my pre-surgery condition; however, through determination and support, I remained focused and became my own personal expert in the areas of weight training and diet.
Since then I have worked with a number of clients, each with different physical limitations and varying degrees of physical fitness expectations. Personally understanding how physical limitations can impact one’s life has improved upon my ability to work with others and empathize with such limitations. It has enabled me to produce fitness programs meeting the unique needs of unique individuals.
Throughout my training career, I have worked to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in health and fitness – both from a functional training perspective as well as special needs. In the past I have held certifications from the IFPA, NSCA & ISSA.
Furthermore, I have completed educational courses in the following areas:
* Older active adults
* Sport training for teens
* Pre- and post-pregnancy
* Active assisted stretching
* Chronic fatigue
* Detailed strategies for program design
* Crossfit Level 1
* USAW Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach
